TRASH 1 RELEASED JUNE 1ST 2007 - FEATURED BANDS
spacer
The Starts THE STARTS
The Starts are, quite clearly, cut from a different cloth. The Starts are storytellers. The Starts are not performing sketches they are painting huge canvasses. The fact that a song as  breath-takingly beautiful and fully realised as ‘Saturday Morning Feeling’ takes third place on this four track demo is testament not only to the confidence of this bunch but also to the strength of their songwriting. And if they sound confident then that’s because they have every right to do so. Reminiscent, in relation to the size of their song-writing scope more than anything else, of Modern Life era Blur or say My Life Story at their most observational and ambitious The Starts draw you in from the opening notes with their cinematic tales of suburban doldrums and city squalor all the time dreaming of the bright lights and the glamour of personal success. The Starts have put together a four track demo that I am guessing only hints and what’s to come and I, for one, can’t wait for the next instalments arrival.

I SHOUTED GUN
This three track demo manages to be angry and outspoken, edgy and intense, direct and immediate and above all essential all at once. I Shouted Gun are a petrol bomb on the dancefloor, the sound of the band playing on as the doors are being kicked in. This music isn’t about getting loaded and having a good time, sure it’s a great way to spend the weekend but that still leaves 120 hours a week and there’s things that need addressing. I Shouted Gun are more than aware, as were The Jam, The Clash, Days and the Redskins before them, that you can dance just as frantically to a jagged call to arms played with guitars, bass and drums as you can to a coach load of superstar DJs. An eight minute white knuckle ride that you’ll queue up for again and again and again.

F451
51 have shot to the top of the Essex scene in the last 6 months like an angry punk comet, and have been setting the bar with their incendiary energetic live performances.  They have recently appeared as a flagship band on the Essex Rocks Tour, appeared as Artist Of The Week on Pulserated Radio, supported Victory Pill (ex-Prodigy/Pitchshifter) and getAMPED, and been on tour in Slovakia. F451 hammer out the politics of the early Manics, the anthemic Britishness of Muse, and the original punk anger of The Clash. In their 3 solid EPs they’ve forged together fury, honesty, politics, anthemic tunes, and conviction rarely seen in other bands either signed or underground.  Their live sets are on fire, and in a scene bloated with indie and emo posers, F451 bring a surge of honesty and legitimacy back into rock music. From the political disco-punk of “Don’t Change The Calendar” to the ferocious catchiness of “Everything You Know Is Wrong” to the military funk-rock of “The Inequality of Now”, F451 are a band full of anger, vitality, fury and honesty, brilliant songs, and most importantly blazing and inspirational live performances.

. RED TRACK
Red Track formed in 2003 when Billy and Andy started jamming together in Bill’s bedroom.
Red Track are Andy Perry (20) drumming, Phil Blake (18) on bass  and vocals, Billy Wright (18) on guitar and lead vocals
For three years Red Track have been writing, getting a dedicated and strong fan base in the Essex area, playing countless gigs. They have headlined most of the venues in Essex and have supported a number of “breaking bands” such as Jacksons Warehouse, White Rose Movement and The Guillimots.
In 2006 better things started happening for the band, which culminated in one of their songs, Pretty Boy (Brace Yourself) being chosen as track of the week by Steve Lamacq’s show “In New Music We Trust” on BBC Radio 1 in December.
In July the band played Guilfest, their first major festival. Here they supported The Stranglers, Billy Idol and The Guillimots. The band are writing for their first album. They have completed 18 songs, eight of which are definite with a few more still to work on.

Boot 50 . BOOT 50
Hailing from Braintree Boot 50 are something a little bit special, that much is evident the minute you push play. Whereas so many bands these days, both signed and unsigned, are happy to simply ape their idols to the point of being nothing more than a poor tribute band Boot 50’s influences, whilst being worn proudly on their sleeves for all to see (and rightly so!), are more evident in their approach and execution of the songs as opposed to being obviously placed all over the melodies and hooks making all four of the songs on this demo immediately memorable and more-ish in their own rights rather than someone else’s.  Both XTC and early Mansun will provide the uninitiated with a rough idea of the starting point for the gorgeously abrasive pop hooks that lay in-store and all four tracks on this demo are without doubt ‘single material’. If the radio stations aren’t aware of Boot 50 yet they soon will be and if they sound this punchy, tight and exciting in the studio one can only imagine where they take these songs in their live shows.

The Most
The Most were formed by Mick Finch, to fill a void in the ever growing Mod, Scooter scene which was coming round to its third revival, with an explosion of Mod style bands hitting the circuit. Being a keen scooterist and Mod,left over from the 79 mod revival, Mick formed the band with close friend, Guy Hicks. The name, The Most, came from a 1960s Ben Sherman advert, 'the most you can get from a shirt' and being 60s inspired, including the authentic 1960s Carnaby Street clothes, The Most, seemed the right name. Many members came and went, until the current line up of, Rick Howe, lead guitar, Two Tone Atkins, drums percussion, and John 'The Face' Hockley, on bass, were finally to become'The Most'Finding obscure 60s beat music and later songs from the 79 revival and the ever growing popularity of the band inspired Mick to write the first of the bands own material. Guilty' with its reggae type rhythm with a modernist beat thrown in proved well with the audience so Scooter Girl was penned and performed, with its 60s sound jangling guitars and rhythmic beat, you can almost be back in 1964. The Most are increasing their playlist with many covers, of The who, Kinks,Jam, and now with some Northern Soul thrown in the pot, who knows ? One thing for sure, there are more original numbers being penned, and played with the passion, and energy that make The Most, Maximum Mod Revival.

. VINNY VINNY
Vinny Vinny are the ace face in the UK Indie/soul movement. The fresh rediscovery of soul music as a young person’s pursuit is spreading across the country like an oil slick wave of All-Nighter’s. Evenings filled with High energy dancing sparked off by music which captures both melody and fast tempo grooves, is converting the mindset of audiences everywhere. Vinny Vinny are running the show with tunes like ‘Broke up the Family’ and ‘Kimmi Kimmi’. Just a year on since their forming and these boys sit as the Godfathers of today’s Indie/Soul frenzy.
The sound of 'Mick Jagger gettin blown by Aretha Franklin is created by Rick (Vocals / Guitar) Mitch (Drums / Vocal) Dan (Guitar / Vocals) and Luke (Bass). These four school mates got so disenchanted by the lack of good nights out in their surrounding area, that they started hiring out the clubs of Southend and Chelmsford to put on their aptly named ‘Filthy Soul’ club nights. Between them they managed a great record box full of legends as well as unsung heroes from various soul movements. The tunes held audiences on the dancefloor all night and was enough to sell out an otherwise shit venue. These attempts to reinvent the positive social atmospheres from the 70’s All-Nighter’s were so inspiring that there was no choice but to start a band and create music which held the same core values.
When seeing the band for the first time, audiences are always impressed by the fact that these boys are clearly not here to impersonate the dress sense or persona of the sixties and seventies Soul and Northern Soul movements. These four old friends are what they are, lads who meet down the pub every weekend to seat up their card school to win enough money for tickets to the next day’s Prem game.
The overriding honesty in the intensions of the music, their personalities on and off stage, and their ambitions to make the big time by being the flagship for Indie/Soul, is what’s so appealing about this band. They would love it if you could join in and support them all the way by turning up and being part of this exciting new movement.

. SWAFF
I am a one man band making electronic pop music. For me the challenge in making music is to try and keep improving. Its always the "next" track that I think is going to be a winner. If people like any of my music on the way then that really is an added bonus. I am getting together material to do some gigs this year.  Thanks for listening.

THE MAZE
The Maze are a unique piano based 4 piece band. There classic English pop sound and clever lyrics have been compared to the likes of the kinks and the small faces. Singer/songwriter and pianist Dave Woodcock has a natural ability to write about everyday life, fascinating to watch and  a natural performer. The Maze started in 2003 when Dave and guitarist Dan Clark met at college. They were then joined by Joe Lamb on drums and Jamie Warner on bass. They have a huge local following in the Leigh on sea/ southend Essex  and the surrounding areas, and are being heard about much further afield these days – with cleverly composed songs like Down by the sea and Female brain , amongst many others, being hugely popular.

Lethal And Destruction

Lethal on the lyrics and spittin... Destruction on the big beats...

Lethal and Destruction have always been personally motivated to raise the bar of their individual skills. Destruction is almost unique in this country, in that he has had the opportunity to work in some of the top New York Studios with the likes of Redman, De La Soul, LL Cool J, MOP and many more. His finest moment was sitting in an L.A studio with the legendary Bernie Grundman (of Dr Dre fame) for the mastering of the ‘Kaos’ album.  Meanwhile, Lethal had been honing his rhyming skills by working with Skibadee, Durrty Goodz and Canibus up at the PP Studios, which were always seeing hot talent passing through.
Immediate success came their way with their debut promo ‘So What’ which hit the number one spot on the BBC 1xtra Station chart. This was followed by two further promo singles. Having created a strong profile with these tunes they were deliberately held back to create demand for the release of their album.  It was then decided to release their hugely successful Mix CD ‘Weapons Of Mass Destruction’ first. The heavy line up included Skibadee, Tor, Skeme, Estelle, Baby Blue and 14-year-old vocalist Paris. The street campaign was supported by hitting specialist radio DJ’s with personalized dub plates. The amazing versatility and dexterity displayed on these dubs was showcased as Lethal added the ‘Harry Shotta’ alias to his name. Amongst the DJ’s blessed, were Rodney P and Skitz (1xtra), Ras Kwame (Radio One/1xtra), Jenny Francis (Choice) and Dynamite MC and MK (Kiss).
Keeping their love affair of radio alive, you can check out Lethal alongside his co-hort DJ Mentat every week on Force 106.5 FM. On alternate weeks you can also hear the highly charged Destruction show.
The Journey album, which includes some of those big promos, also holds surprises and the very special track ‘The Performance’ which brings together Lethal, Skibadee and Tor. To quote Lethal, “This album is for all the supporters of Lethal and Destruction. 14 tracks that reflect the diversity of my boy Destruction’s production allowing me to display a variety of lyrics, styles and moods on the Mic. Be warned though, there is no let up now. The Ringleaders album, the Harry Shotta album and Destruction’s ‘Breaking Point’ Compilation are all in production”.
