NEVERSAYDIE Like most suburban settings, Cannock, a town 20 minutes north of Birmingham, seemed only to provide a landscape for small-mindedness and very little creative output. “It’s the type of town where people are content to never pursue their dreams! They’re born here, live here, work and die here, that’s not for us,” says Adam. Here nobody can hear you screaming, because this kind of music was unwanted and undesired because it provokes attention. And so hidden in their bedrooms the boys turned to music for escapism, six friends with one dream! NeverSayDie began over two years ago; having the foundations set, all they needed was a name, a moniker to fit there sound and attitude. After realising all the good names were taken, the band returned to the drawing board looking for something that could fit their style. After an afternoon screening of ‘The Goonies’, they found it, and what better than a name synonymous with fun and youthful adventure. It clicked; it was catchy, fun and instantly familiar. With a sound occupying the same musical territory as their peers such as The Starting Line and New Found Glory, they offer up-beat songs filled with catchy melodies, dashes of keyboard and ambiguous lyrics to be deciphered, rather than the typical diary entry bloodletting that is heard too often. People forget that you can enjoy yourself, use your brain and do it all without taking yourself too seriously. ‘In little over a year we have come a long way in terms of song writing and stage-presence’ says Adam. Drawing in an ever-growing and loyal fan-base because of an unrelenting pace and endearing on-stage energy NeverSayDie profess that they have a lot more up their sleeves. Matt says ‘In terms of achievements we’re barely starting on the road to where we want to be, we have so many songs and ideas that have yet to be exercised.’ And so the NeverSayDie musical muscles are still to be toned, tuned and worked-out by the right kind of Label support. |

FUCKSHOVEL Formed at a Velvet Revolver gig in 2005 the name gave birth to the band - initially writing for fun and with the intention of cajoling a bunch of mates into to a few local gigs for beer money. Within a few months a permanent bass player and drummer were recruited and at this stage the band recorded their first demo – the Wake Up Or Die EP – which got them play-listed and interviewed on UK’s Total Rock Radio. Further recording followed and by the end of the year the band had started playing its first gigs. In 2006, the band scaled down to a four-piece and this gave them a fresh impetus and a tighter sound. London gigs at venues such as the Underworld and the Borderline and motorway trips to such exotic locations as Guisborough, Trefforest and Burnley have further honed their sound and brought down the finishing times in their infamous post-gig Guinness and Crème Egg race. 2007 has seen them record six killer tracks (Long Time Dead , The Antidote, Skull & Bones, Redneck Nazis, Bush War and I Don’t Believe In your God) in London’s famed Metropolis studios (recording home of U2, Slipknot, Babyshambles and Kate Moss). As a result of this session labels have started taking an interest, John Kennedy took to playing Long Time Dead on his XFM show and Skull & Bones will be featured on a cover mount CD with the January edition of UK magazine Rock Sound. Over the next few months the band will complete their debut album with producer Rohan Onraet which will released early 2008. The debut video for Long Time Dead has been aired on MTV’s Headbangers Ball in the UK, Europe and South Africa. It is straight forward yet inspired. Starring Nobby, their twenty-six stone tour driver, as its star, he doesn’t talk, dance or act, he just polishes off seven tins of Ravioli in three and a half minutes. Long Time Dead and Skull & Bones will be released as a 7” picture disc on 5th November (distribution through Pinnacle) and are both available for download on iTunes now. |

KOOPA Citing influences from Green Day to Guns N’ Roses and Nirvana to The Beatles, KOOPA create a vibrant Indie-like, yet Punk-inspired sound, well suited for Britpop and alternative rock fans alike. Ollie Cooper [vox/guitar], Joe Murphy [Vox/bass], and Stu Cooper [drums] made UK Chart history in January 2007 when KOOPA became the first ever unsigned band to have a Top 40 hit. The download-only single ‘Blag, Steal and Borrow’ made it into the charts at Number 31...... then they did it AGAIN! In June 2007, Koopa’s single “One Off Song For The Summer” entered the Official UK Singles Chart at number 21! |

HIDES IN CAVES We have a new bassist! His name is Calvin or Vince. Whichever you prefer. We’ve been searching for ages, and we’re really pleased that we’ve sorted this out now. It means we can get this band back on the road as we know we haven’t done enough over the last 6 months since we last went on tour. We’re spending the next month or so finishing writing our new songs, and we’re gonna end this period with a week in the studio to get them all down so we can release a new CD. We’re not playing any shows until the end of January, but come mid February onwards we’ll start playing as much as we can once again. It’s hard keeping a band going when it’s members live hundreds of miles apart, but we’re dedicated to it and we will get hidesincaves rolling properly again. Look out for the new and improved HiC in February, and please keep supporting us until then! |

ONE FELL DOWN ONE FELL DOWN is without doubt the heaviest band on the Essex circuit to date. Hailing from the chav filled streets of Southend on Sea, the 5 members of ONE FELL DOWN pour all of their workday hate, anger and frustration into what has been described as the most BRUTAL, UNFORGIVING music ever heard. Formed in 2004 ONE FELL DOWN completed a self financed 7 track demo entitled “CARTOONS ON CRACK” which gained them access to clubs and venues both local and countrywide, allowing them to build up a highly loyal fan base in preparation for the next step - a full year of higher profile gigs and tours, a promotional video and with the right label behind them, a national if not worldwide release. Make no mistake; the 2008 metal scene will belong to ONE FELL DOWN. Old friends KRIS PERRIN (drums) and brothers DAN (vocals) and DAREN McANINCH (bass) put ONE FELL DOWN together purely for the love of the music, but after writing a few songs and completing the line up with AARON DARLING (guitar) and MYLES GLOVER (guitar) it was easy to see that the material needed to reach the metal loving public. In the early days, 1FD faced the challenge of being continually booked to play alongside the endless amount of run of the mill emo bands, but even so, their hook laden tunes and intensely aggressive and energetic live performances lead to many young fans turning their back on the emo scene and joining the ranks of the TERROR SQUAD, the unofficial 1FD street team. With CARTOONS ON CRACK selling well enough to fund their own range of merchandise and an army of die hard fans willing to travel anywhere to see them, ONE FELL DOWN are now in a prime position to move into the London Circuit and capitalise on their national contacts in 2008 – the only thing that remains to be seen is which label will be lucky enough, and have the balls big enough to take on a band that is set to blow the whole metal scene apart… |

Never Means Maybe ‘Never Means Maybe (Formed in 2005) are a 5 piece post-hardcore/rock band from Essex who have gained a reputation for their energetic and chaotic live shows. With each member’s musical tastes and influences ranging, the bands overall sound can be hard to pin down, fusing hardcore screams and melodic singing with blazing, syncopated riffs and hi-octane drumming to form a hard hitting, emotional sound that has allowed Never Means Maybe to stand out from the proverbial crowd.’ |
